Nine Years Old - or is it 18 or 21? I'm Not Sure !!

Below are new pictures of the girls. Bailee, my baby, just lost her first top tooth. It looks like she’s lost two because she has always had a gap between the top two teeth. She refused to let me pull it, so it just basically fell out last week at school on the playground. The tooth fairy dutifully came, took the tooth and left money in its place. There is something about those top teeth coming out that just makes them look more grown up and, as a mother, I just don’t like it because it means they really are growing up. I remember when she was a baby – with big ears and red curly hair on the top. Her ponytail looked like Pebbles from the Flintstones (including that picture too).

Cassie turned nine yesterday and I think she has the record for the longest running birthday celebration! At after school care on Friday, she got goodies and they sang to her. Friday night, she had a few friends spend the night. On Saturday morning, cousins joined us for a SPA-rty celebration complete with pedicures, manicures, facials, brunch and cupcakes. It was very fun. Then on Sunday, grandparents visited and brought presents. Then, last night she announced that we had to get cupcakes for school today for her birthday! I’m partied out folks

I can’t believe that she is nine. She doesn’t believe she is nine either – she thinks she is 18 or 21. Girls today are so different than when I was young. They skip from baby stage to wanting to be grown and it makes me sad. Not to mention that they develop earlier and earlier. Thankfully my girls are not doing so but I can tell that some girls Cassie’s age are already in the early stages of puberty.

I recently added a “Notes” survey on FaceBook about “My First Born” and it brought back such memories. Nine years ago yesterday I was in Woman’s Hospital awaiting the arrival of a baby with absolutely no idea how my life was about to change. And change it has……….all for the better. The sleepless nights, the stress, the worry, the tiredness, the aggravation……it’s all worth it. Especially when a little girl looks at you and says she has had the best birthday ever I don’t want anybody to begin telling me to “just wait until they’re teenagers if you think you’re stressed now”…….it’ll get here when it gets here and I’ll deal with it then!
